KETO BAGELS

Bagels are a staple in many American households and they’ve found their way ‘across the pond’.

They are quick to toast and even quicker to fill, but sadly they are also packed with lots of carbs. Don’t despair though because thanks to this recipe, chewy soft Keto bagels can now be enjoyed by everyone.

These Keto Bagels do look like regular bagels, but they are made with almond flour and baking powder…. so if you like bread made with almond flour, you will like these…. AND the bagel seasoning does give them a bagel taste.

Ingredients

  • 160 g Almond Flour

  • 40 g Unflavoured Whey Protein Powder

  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum

  • 1 Egg

  • 280 g Grated Mozzarella

  • 50 g Cream Cheese

  • 3-4 tsp Bagel Seasoning

Method

  • Mix Mozzarella and Cream Cheese together. Microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring each time until completely melted.
  • Preferably using a food mixer (a hand held mixer with the dough attachment will also do) mix the cheese until it’s slightly cooled, then add the beaten egg. Stir until the egg and cheese are combined.
  • Slowly add the dried ingredients and mix until you have a nice dough texture.
  • Form the dough into 8 equal sized balls (use a small amount of almond flour or similar – I used potato fibre – to stop the dough sticking to your hands).
  • Taking a ball, use your thumbs to make a hole in the middle and form into a bagel shape, making sure the hole in the middle is big enough, because the dough will rise and expand when baked.
  • Sprinkle/press bagel seasoning on to the top of the bagels.
  • Bake at 180C for ca 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Notes

  • MACROS per bagel: 3.5g Carbs – 20g Fat – 15.9g Protein – 260 Calories
